So moving to Zimbabwe hasn’t really fulfilled my need to be around cars. In fact it’s all but killed notraction and all my motivation to continue with Automotive Photography. The car scene here is literally filled with a bunch of dirty old rust buckets, modded in poor taste with cheap fake parts. To be fair, there is a scene for collectors, but to be honest, I’d much rather see a slammed JZX100 than a pristine Jaguar E-Type. Sorry, I don’t know why I’m like this.

Anyway, I spend a bit of time in South Africa, because everyone needs a sanity trip every so often. The thing about South Africa is, well, the cars are absolutely insane. Not only are supercars so common, but their modified car scene is absolutely world class. The laws regarding modified cars in Africa aren’t exactly as strict as Australia. So what that means is big power, super low, incredibly unique and ultimately cars I love.

So at this point I had lost all motivation to even continue with photography, I even listed my camera for sale on Gumtree. I figured I could live with my Pixel 3 XL and be done with it. That was until I came across Fayyaad’s absolutely stunning 1995 BMW E36 on Instagram. I was immediately smitten. When it comes to modifying a car, I’m really into anything that will make the car faster and handle better before aesthetics, but I have to admit I didn’t care when it came to this E36. Bags, 3PC Autostrada Modenas and a beautiful paint job to ice the cake.

Little did I know, the paint is actually from factory and it’s never been resprayed. BMW South Africa released 50 examples of this super unique colour called Ice Blue. It’s absolutely stunning in real life and ridiculously hard to colour grade but hopefully my photos do it justice.

The beautiful thing about this story is that Fayyaad’s Dad bought this car while his Mum was still pregnant with him. This car has quite literally been in Fayyaad’s life since he was born. A lifetime of family road trips and memories until eventually it was his turn to get behind the wheel.

Lucky for all of us, Fayyaad’s Dad has no qualms with him modifying the car to his heart’s content, as it goes he’s an enthusiast too. Hiding in the garage are a few other beauties including another E36, only this time 2 doors and OH, it’s an M3.

You can catch Fayyaad on instagram here. You can also catch the full gallery here.

Don’t forget to catch us on Insta too! (StreetCover, notraction)
